Muscle-Specific Deep Tissue Techniques for the Legs and Hips 8 CE hours
The legs are often treated by bodyworkers for the least amount of time in a session. Yet they support the upper body and are under tremendous compressive force, whether moving or stationary. When the structures of the feet and legs are functioning properly, they are one of the fundamental anchors of our stability and support. When they’re not, they are a major contributor to foot, knee, hip, and low back issues.
In this class, you will learn specific, potent, and effective Deep Tissue techniques to release the muscles and fascia of the hips, legs and feet. Some of the specific muscle groups you will work with include the deep calf flexors (tibialis posterior, flexor hallucis, flexor digitorum), the anterior compartment (tibialis anterior and extensor digitorum), the quadriceps group, the tensor fascia latae and IT tract, the gluteals, the deep lateral rotators, hamstrings, and adductors. These are simple, straightforward, muscle-specific techniques that can be immediately applied in practice. Body mechanics will also be a focus of the class, as well as proper use of hands, elbows, and forearms to save wear and tear on joints.

Brian has been teaching continuing education internationally since 1990. He designs his classes and programs so that the students truly “get” the material and can immediately apply it in their practices, rather than just being exposed to it. With over 30 years of experience, Brian teaches with a rare blend of passion, anatomical precision, humor, common sense, and depth. He was awarded the AMTA’s Robert N. Calvert Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2009, and was inducted into the Massage Therapy Hall of Fame in 2014. Brian now owns and operates the Pacific Northwest School of Massage. Please be prompt. Late arrivals may attend, but will not be able to receive CE certification. Attendees who arrive on time and stay for the entire class receive 8 NCB CEUs.
Refunds: If you cancel your participation 7 days or more prior to the workshop, you will receive a full refund (minus any credit card/service fees). If you cancel 2-6 days prior to the workshop, you will be given credit towards the next SD unit workshop.
Same day cancellations and no shows will not be refunded nor credited for future workshops.
Class is limited to 36 people. Register early to hold your place. AMTA members have priority.
WHAT TO BRING: In the morning, we will be working supine and side-lying on the feet and anterior and lateral sides of the legs. The best clothing option for this portion under the drape is either underwear or a bathing suit bottom.
In the afternoon, you will be draped with a sheet, and your partner will do some work on your gluteals. If you wear underwear for this portion, the underwear should allow access to the gluteals. Bike shorts, boxers, etc, will not work.
We’ll finish with some standing adductor work; the best clothing for this is either underwear, gym shorts, or a bathing suit bottom. We will need to make direct contact with the skin, so long pants will not work.
Light snacks and lunch will be provided, however you may bring your own. Folks with dietary restrictions are encouraged to bring their own.
